The Child Protection Group at the Children’s Hospital Zurich deals with infants, children and adolescents who have been victims of abuse. In addition to medical examinations of child abuse, we also offer counselling for those affected, their families and professionals.
Violence is a much more prevalent part of everyday life today than we tend to think. Whether physical, sexual or psychological, violence against children and young people takes many forms. In such situations, young victims often don’t know who to turn to or who will protect them from further assault in the future. It was for this reason that the Eastern Switzerland Children’s Hospital set up the Kinderschutzzentrum (KSZ) child protection centre 20 years ago.
The child protection centre has a vision of a world in which children and young people can develop protected from violence and abuse. The child protection centre shares this vision with all those affected and offers them comprehensive and personal help.

The ‘Children & Violence’ foundation contributes to the protection of children and young people throughout Switzerland by providing financial support to individuals and institutions that are involved in projects for the prevention, early detection and combating of child abuse – as well as the counselling, care and treatment of abused children and their families – insofar as these projects and campaigns are not the responsibility of the state.

The child protection group is an interdisciplinary assessment and advice centre for voluntary specialised child protection at the paediatric clinic. It advises private individuals and professionals on what to do if they suspect a risk and/or child abuse in relation to the mental, physical or sexual integrity of children between the ages of 0 and 16. Situations of risk and abuse can be clarified on the basis of discussions, child interviews or physical examinations. To do this, the indication and a corresponding assignment or clarification of the assignment must be provided by the civil or criminal authorities or by the legal guardians.
The child protection group team is made up of employees from the fields of psychology, social work and medicine. Their approach is transparent, proportionate, open-ended and networked.
