How could health professionals, or professionals dealing with violence fail, not imagine that the defiance, or occasional belligerence, displayed by a person  wounded in her being and refusing to see herself as a victim, are endeavours to protect their loved ones or other potential victims? Those whom we would no doubt be marked today as narcissistic perverts charm their way into winning the trust of people outside the situation and often pose as the good guys.
